VOLUNTEERS
Home visiting volunteer
Home-Start Dumfries volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and experience and are either parents, grandparents or have parenting experience. They are carefully selected for friendliness, good listening and understanding to support families where they are at.
Home-visiting volunteers provide support for up to 2 hours weekly in the family home.
Volunteers receive regular support and supervision with a coordinator.
Training
New volunteers are required to complete the Home-Start preparation course, which is run over 4-6 weeks (each training session roughly lasts two hours a week). Volunteers will be appropriately matched with a family following completion of the preparation course.
Safeguarding
Keeping families and volunteers safe is paramount. It is essential that all volunteers and trustees join the Scotland Disclosure PVG scheme and provide two references.

We are proud to be Volunteer Charter Champions!
What being a Volunteer Charter Champion means to us? Our volunteers are the heart of our service, we would not exist and be able to support young families in DG1 and DG2 without them. We value our volunteers and honourer all 10 Charter principles which can be found here: Volunteer Charter – Volunteer Scotland
